Information about Alumni Association

The Alumni is the legacy that lives on after the formal education process is complete. The Alumni of Nirmala Niketan is a dynamic macro system that extends off itself to co create the future direction of the college and collaborates with the College’s initiatives. The institution is extremely proud of its alumni and the significant work that they are doing in key and responsible positions. They take the values of a comprehensive Home Science Education steeped in life skills and community values. A large number, in their professional capacities is involved in paving new paths and turning the leaves of progress towards prosperity.

Initiated in 1980, the Alumni Association of the College of Home Science has evolved over the years into a substantial proportion having more than 1500 members.

Aims of the Alumni Association
  • To promote collaborative relationships among graduated students of the college so as to form a forum, which can take up the issues related to the college and otherwise.
  • To provide an effective bond with various batches of students graduating through the institution.
  • To organize programmers related to various occasions.
  • To raise funds, accept donations, gifts and legacies for the activities of the association and the college.

  • Membership will be open to all those who have graduated, post-graduated or received either a Diploma or a Certificate course from the college (minimum one academic year/recognized during the valedictory function of the college).
  • The staff of the college will be eligible to be members of the association
  • Any person associated with the college is eligible
  • A fee of Rs.500/- entitles one to be a life member
  • Any past student of the college desiring to be a member of the Association shall apply to secretary in the prescribed form.

The activities of the Alumni association can be broadly classified into two aspects; Activities commissioned for the entire association and activities commissioned for departmental benefit and interaction.

Activities commissioned for the entire association
  • The Annual General Body Meeting
  • Alumni Newsletter
  • Interactive meetings – tailor-made to promote interaction and networking and to increase involvement of the alumni in college activities like the Nirmala Niketan Carnival (The diamond Jubilee Fund Raising) and The Carnival Returns, both theme based and fun inspired dance and dinner get together with a brainstorming session for idea generation to contribute to the college (photos will be attached).
  • Participation in the fund raising Musical night programme by way of fund generation and creating linkages (photos will be attached).
Activities commissioned for departmental benefit and interactions

There are several alumnae activities that each department also organizes with the aim of familiarizing current students about future prospects, scope of the industry and motivating them with success stories of departmental alumnae. Some examples are as follows

Awards Received :

  • First Prize in 'Nirmal Seva Puraskar' instituted by FND Department for my paper on "Nutrition Education Protocols and Tools for Pediatric Cancer Patients and Caretakers - Development and Efficacy"

  • First prize in 'Utkarsh Awards' instituted by IDA for Research in Nutrition for my paper "Nutrition Education Protocols and Tools for Pediatric Cancer Patients and Caretakers"

Qualification : MSc in Foods, Nutrition and Dietetics

Position held presently with name of organisation : Recently completed 6 months RD internship from Tata Memorial Hospital. Currently working as a Freelancer

Feedback : It has been an amazing experience as a student in Nirmala Niketan. The opportunities that I have received from the college have helped me develop my skills in my field. I'm forever grateful of the faculty to be there as a support system, always guiding me.

Position held presently with name of organisation : Export Merchandiser at Vrijesh Corporations; Freelancer (content, e-commerce, creatives development) at Njoy3d; Freelancing (customised women’s wear)

Feedback : Nirmala Niketan has truly chiseled each and every student to become polished diamonds during the courses. Teachers and the staff are extremely encouraging and supportive to get the best out from each student. Practical and on field first-hand experience is given utmost importance which helps to develop an in individual, which has made me who I am today!

  • Award for consulate prize for research paper presentation on “Food Consumption pattern of Low Socioeconomic Status Women Living in South Mumbai” at the Indian Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition Clinical Nutrition Congress, 2019.

  • Award for ‘Young Leaders Creating A Better World For All’ by the ‘WOMEN ECONOMIC FORUM’: 2018.

  • Gold Medalist in Nutrition and Exercise for Fitness: 2015-16.

  • Gold Medal in Badminton at Malabar hill competition: June 2014

Feedback : College has just been like a temple of love, enlightening each student with the power of knowledge, skills and the art of living. Teaches have just been like parents - motivating and guiding each student to achieve more.
